Americana - Artistic photos of US history and culture (e.g.: flags, national cemeteries, holiday parades, patriotic events, nostalgic signs, ballgames and food, county fairs and carnivals, old cars and trucks
Patterns and/or Textures - Pattern is associated with rhythm, and, like rhythm, pattern is built on repetition. Texture is a quality of structure. Texture appeals to a sense of feeling or touch.
Light and Shadow - Light is the basis of all photography and impacts on what we see and how we see it. Light can create graphic elements in a photograph. Shadow(s) can help to direct attention to a specific point in the composition.
Reflections - You can find them in all kinds of unusual places…in a mirror, in sunglasses, on a car, in a window, in water, in jewelry…almost anywhere you might look!
Minimalism - An uncomplicated, streamlined image with little or no distractions. Placement of the subject matter in the frame takes on a greater importance as does the incorporation of negative space.
